Angry Birds is an insanely popular mobile phone game, and has been downloaded more than 42 million times between the iPhone, and Android and webOS devices. The game has even earned a place on Apple’s All Time most popular apps. So what’s next for the disgruntled birds?
Rovio, the guys behind the game indicated this week plans to bring Angry Birds to Windows Phone 7, as well as release a 3D version of the game in the future.
Why hasn’t it already on Windows Phone 7?
Microsoft and Rovio started talking about doing a Windows Phone 7 version of the game before Windows Phone 7 even hit the market. Microsoft got a little excited, and went ahead and used the Angry Birds logo back in the day during the launch Windows Phone 7 without the consent of Rovio, and before they’d actually made a deal- not exactly the way to build a friendship. Apparently now the two have made up, and Angry Birds may be flying its way onto the OS.
According to an interview done by Pocket-lint, Rovio’s “Mighty Eagle” Peter Vesterbacka says “We’re working on it” in regards to a Windows Phone 7 version of the game, and that a 3D version of the game may also be on the way. “We’ve built a lot of 3D games before, it’s not like it’s a lot of learning in order to recreate the technology with Angry Birds,” Rovio purchased 3D gaming company Pixelgame in 2006.
3D Angry Birds? That would certainly be something to see.
Are any of you Angry birds fans? What do you think about the game coming to Windows Phone 7? How about 3D?
